Conservation Tip
The Water Usage Calculator helps you measure how much water you use daily, monthly, and yearly. By entering your shower time, toilet flushes, faucet use, laundry loads, and water rate, the calculator shows your water consumption and cost. It also provides conservation tips to help you save water and money.
What is a Water Usage Calculator?
A Water Usage Calculator is a simple tool that estimates household water consumption. It calculates the gallons of water used for showers, toilets, faucets, and laundry, then multiplies by your local water rate to show daily, monthly, and yearly costs. This helps families and individuals become more aware of their usage.
How It Works
- Enter your daily shower time in minutes.
- Input the number of toilet flushes per day.
- Add your daily faucet run time in minutes.
- Select the number of laundry loads you do each day.
- Enter your water rate per 1,000 gallons.
- The calculator shows your total daily, monthly, and yearly use along with costs.
Formula
- Shower Water Use = Minutes × Flow Rate (gpm)
- Toilet Water Use = Flushes × Gallons per Flush
- Faucet Water Use = Minutes × Flow Rate (gpm)
- Laundry Water Use = Loads × Gallons per Load
- Total Daily Use = Shower + Toilet + Faucet + Laundry
- Daily Cost = (Total Daily Use ÷ 1000) × Water Rate
Example Calculation
- Total Daily Shower Time = 40 min (1.8 gpm) → 72 gal
- Daily Toilet Flushes = 12 (1.6 gpf) → 19.2 gal
- Daily Faucet Run Time = 11 min (2.2 gpm) → 24.2 gal
- Daily Laundry Loads = 1 (15 gal/load) → 15 gal
Total Daily Use = 130.4 gallons
Daily Cost = $0.98
Monthly Use = 3912 gallons, Monthly Cost = $29.34
Yearly Use = 47,596 gallons, Yearly Cost = $356.97
Benefits of Using the Calculator
- Shows where most of your water is going.
- Helps reduce monthly utility bills.
- Encourages water conservation for the environment.
